Behind the Scenes of Recruitment Agencies “If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.”

Posted on Thursday, May 2, 2024 by By James Roadnight, General Manager at KDC Resource

Ever wondered what truly transpires behind the curtains of a recruitment agency? The perception might be a flurry of job postings, quick phone calls, and resume shuffling. But let me debunk that myth for you.

At KDC Resource, our approach goes far beyond the superficial. Here’s a glimpse into the meticulous process we undertake to secure top-tier talent for our clients:

1. Building the Talent Arsenal

Firstly, it's all about the numbers. We sift through approximately 600 profiles to meticulously curate a talent pool of around 100-120 potential candidates. This isn’t just a matter of glancing at resumes; it’s about identifying individuals who not only possess the requisite skills but also align with our clients’ culture and vision.

2. Engaging the Passive Talent

Once we’ve assembled our talent arsenal, the real work begins. We embark on a multi-channel campaign to engage with passive candidates, recognizing that it takes persistent outreach—sometimes up to 5-6 touchpoints—to spark interest.

3. Forging Meaningful Connections

Out of this pool, around 20 candidates emerge as strong contenders. But our job doesn’t end there. Each candidate undergoes a thorough 30-minute interview where we delve into their skills, motivations, aspirations, and personal circumstances. This isn’t just a checkbox exercise; it’s about forging meaningful connections and gathering nuanced insights.

4. Navigating the Interview Process

Next comes the delicate dance of managing candidates through the interview process. From scheduling interviews to navigating dynamic situations, our role is akin to that of a strategic advisor, ensuring a seamless experience for both parties involved.

5. Mastering the Art of Offer Presentation

But the journey doesn’t conclude with an offer. We navigate the complexities of offer presentation, considering external factors like competing offers and counteroffers. It’s a delicate balancing act that demands finesse and foresight.

6. Shepherding Through the "Valley of Death"

Even after the ink dries on the offer letter, our job isn’t done. We shepherd candidates through the precarious “Valley of Death,” the period between acceptance and commencement, where anything can happen. Regular check-ins ensure a smooth transition and mitigate any potential hiccups.

And only then, after months of diligent effort, do we see the fruits of our labour. But make no mistake—our fee isn’t just compensation for our services rendered; it’s an investment in quality, integrity, and expertise.

So, is a good recruiter worth their fee? Without a shadow of a doubt. As the adage goes, “If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.” In the realm of recruitment, the value of a seasoned professional is immeasurable.
